London Metropolitan University Crisis: Non-EU students fear removal from UK

Penulis : Unknown on Thursday, August 30, 2012 | 1:21 PM

Thursday, August 30, 2012

London Metropolitan University has had its Highly Trusted Status (HTS) for sponsoring international students revoked and will no longer be allowed to authorise visas, according to the institution's website.
The move could mean more than 2,000 students being deported within 60 days unless they find another sponsor, according to the National Union of Students (NUS) .
Immigration minister Damian Green said there had been a "serious systematic failure" at the university. He said it proved to be a "very, very deficient" sponsor because more than a quarter of students sampled were studying there when they did not have permission to stay in the country. A "significant proportion" of students did not have a good standard of English and there was no proof that half of those sampled were turning up to lectures, he added.
Every international student looks crushed after the university became the first in the UK to be stripped by the Home Office of its ability to sponsor foreign learners. What these students fear most is that if they don't, by some miracle, get themselves a place at a new university within the next few months, they will be removed from the country.
Cecil Ezeja, 21, from Enugu state in Nigeria was the great hope for his family. Now he dreads the moment when he has to tell his family that his year of studying electronic communications and the £10,080 they paid has come to naught."I can't call them, I don't want to cause any heartbreak".
For Mohammed Islam, 23, from Bangladesh, it is the second time he has enrolled for a law degree and found himself at an institution suddenly stripped of its ability to host foreign students. He has not told his parents but hopes they are prepared to stump up another £10,000 to pay for his degree. "I have a dream," he said. "To finish my LLB from a good university from the UK. This is my main dream."
Ursula Rehman, from Dubai, looks desperate. She has just one semester to go to complete her degree in biomedical sciences and is not having any luck moving to another university. "I've spoken to so many universities now and they say, 'oh we don't do transfers, we don't do this, or we'll have to charge you this much'." She's exasperated. Everyone, she says, is worried and scared.
Emmanuel Egwu, international students’ officer at the university, was one of the many students angered by the decision. He was granted a visa to study at the university in 2009 and is in the final year of his course.
"I pay a lot of money. I've spent £30,000 to 40,000 in tuition fees - my parents sell properties and land to make sure they can pay my fees so what's going to happen to people like me," he told Sky News.

This video explains it all

This is sad oh....I pray the Home Office finds a better way to handle this issue with the university cos we know how much our parents pay for studies esp in UK.

>>FEATURED ARTIST - RACHEL CLORE

Penulis : Unknown on Thursday, August 23, 2012 | 4:20 AM

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Freshly graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Maryland, Rachel Clore is a budding textile designer. Her most recent works have been inspired by her experiences while living and studying traditional tie and dye techniques in India.

While living in India, Rachel was inspired by everything—the vibrant markets and bazaars of bustling New Delhi, birds (most often the colorful Kingfisher), mangoes, chikoo (a delicious fruit), ornate gold jewelry and temple architecture, electric color, painted elephants, marigolds and other flowers, truck decoration, decoration in every sphere, and the people she encountered every day.

Upon returning home to the United States, the culture clash forced Rachel to examine her most vivid memories. Her memories, sketchbook pages, paper clippings, photographs, and writings then helped inform the creation of digital repeats for fabric. As time passes, Rachel has turned again and again to thoughts of color, food, and the mesmerizing visual clutter that embodies India’s energy and spirit.

JUST BELIEVE...

Penulis : Unknown on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 | 3:43 PM

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

If you're one of those who always use this sentence - "I don't believe things till I see them", then this article is for you. To help you understand it better, I'm going to ask you some questions.

Q. 1 - How many times have you gone to an airline to request for the certificate of qualification for the pilot before you boarded the plane? Pls tell me, how many times? I guess you walked majestically up that staircase and smiled when the cabin crew welcomed you aboard. Then you fastened your seat belt, pulled your chair backwards and immediately the plane leapt into the air, your eyes closed. The next time you open your eyes will be the landing announcements saying you have arrived your final destination. This means that you trusted the pilot (who you did not even see) to take you from Point A to Point B, right? What if he/she was a learner? loll

Q. 2 - Have you ever had a surgery? If you haven't, you may have a friend/family member who has had one. OK, I'll use myself as an example. I had appendicitis operation in 2004 and all I know is that I was told a man with glasses wearing a white lab. coat was a doctor and was going to perform the surgery. I walked into the theatre, saw a very bright light and lots of surgical instruments which were all supposed to be used on my body. I just laid on the bed and surrendered myself whole-heartedly trusting the doctor and believing that whatever he's going to do will be a success. So how many of us have asked for the doctor's certificate before we went for surgery or medical check-ups? How do you even know the guy/lady is a doctor? Or does it mean anyone wearing a white coat is a doctor? NO...you trust that the man/woman you see in the hospital is the doctor and will handle any issues relating to your health.

Q. 3 - This question is very funny but true. When were you born? Let's say 11/07/1980. How did you know you were born on that day? Were you there? Did you see your birth? So how do you know that date is your birthday? I'm sure your answer is -  my parents told me and I also have a birth certificate; I'm pretty sure this date will forever stick in your medula oblongata (brain) and not even the midwife who cut your umbilical cord can change your mind or tell you otherwise. So do you believe the words from your parents and some ink on paper more than the words that proceed from God? Can you hold on to The Word this way even in d midst of challenges?

Having read these questions, I'm sure you already know where I'm heading to. Today in the office, one of my colleagues said he will never believe in miracles till he sees it for himself. Why do we find it very difficult to believe/trust the word of God. We find it hard to believe that what He says is what will happen in our lives because we have clouded our minds with every possible negative outcome of whatever situation we're facing. The most common cliché is to imagine the worst case scenario; why should you be facing challenges and thinking of the worst instead of thinking of the best scenario? After praying that God should help you with that matter, you counter your prayers by allowing negative thoughts ruin your answered prayers.

Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire; when ye pray, BELIEVE that ye receive them and ye shall have them.

So what have you prayed for? A dream you want to see come true, a job, finances, marriage, child, family issues, etc. Do you believe that you have received your answer? You cannot have it if you don't believe. If you read that verse clearly, it says believe and then...you shall have. This is because your believing activates the answer to your prayer. As easy as it is to believe and trust the pilot and doctor; that is the same way you should believe the power in the word of God. It is more efficient and dependable; above all, it acts with speed ASAP. Don't wait till you see the answer first; all you need to do is JUST BELIEVE and your answer will be right there at your doorstep.

Believe in God
Believe in yourself
Believe in your dreams

BELIEVE THAT HE WHO HAS PROMISED, IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO BRING HIS WORDS TO PASS IN YOUR LIFE... It's time to sit back, relax and watch Him work in your life.

Hope this inspired you.

I WAS HERE: WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY

Penulis : Unknown on Sunday, August 19, 2012 | 1:17 PM

Sunday, August 19, 2012

ONE DAY, ONE MESSAGE, ONE GOAL
TO INSPIRE PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD
TO DO SOMETHING GOOD
NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL
FOR SOMEONE ELSE

Today is the World Humanitarian Day, a time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. The day was designated by the General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which killed 22 UN staff. Every day humanitarian aid workers help millions of people around the world, regardless of who they are and where they are. World Humanitarian Day is a global celebration of people helping people.

We are not just in this world to eat, drink, acquire degrees, get married, have kids, grow old, die and be buried. NO…there’s more to life than meets the eye. We need to make an impact, change a life, touch someone’s life positively and leave a mark in the sands of time. There are people who have been aligned in your path for you to reach. They may have dirty clothing with dirty hands and feet; they may not have the lovely scent from your cologne/perfume or speak posh/British English like you do. But they have been placed in your path so their lives could be better.  Don’t refuse to do that one thing that will put a smile on someone’s face. Let their lives be better because YOU WERE HERE. This reminds me of my first article on this blog, I’LL BE THERE….It will inspire you.

You may not be a fire-fighter, in the army, emergency rescue team or the ambulance services; but there is something you can do for someone out there so that tomorrow when the story is being told, you’ll raise your hand and say I WAS HERE.

Listen to the song I WAS HERE by Beyonce...i was moved to tears.
Have a lovely week ahead.

GUEST POST: LIFE IS NOT A COMPETITION

Penulis : Unknown on Friday, August 17, 2012 | 12:28 PM

Friday, August 17, 2012

I was jogging one day and I noticed a person in front of me, about 1/4 of mile. I could tell he was running a little slower than me and I thought, good, I shall try to catch him. I had about a mile to go my path before I needed to turn off. so I started running faster and faster. Every block, I was gaining on him just a little bit. After just a few minutes I was only about 100 yards behind him, so I really picked up the pace and push myself. You would have thought I was running in the last leg of London Olympic competition. I was determined to catch him.
Finally, I did it! I caught and passed him by. On the inside I felt so good. "I beat him" of course, he didn't even know we were racing. After I passed him, I realized I had been so focused on competing against him that I had missed my turn. I had gone nearly six blocks past it. I had to turn around and go all back.
Isn't that what happens in life when we focus on competing with co-workers, neighbours, friends, trying to outdo them or trying to prove that we are more successful or more important?
We spend our time and energy running after them and we miss out on our own paths to our God given destinies. The problem with unhealthy competition is that it’s a never ending cycle. There will always be somebody ahead of you, someone with better job, nicer car, more money in the bank. I can be the best that I can be, I am not competing with no one. Some people are insecure because they pay too much attention to what others are doing, where they are going, what they are wearing and driving. Take what God has given you, the height, the weight, the personality, dress well and wear it proudly. May God in His awesomeness bless you all with Wisdom to see His plans for you.

MY VIEWS (Lynn)
We should understand that there are different phases in life. When a child is born, the child first crawls, then tries to stand. In that stage, he/she will need support by holding onto things; finally the child gets to walk alone and finally starts to run. Such is life.

There is a stage where you are still growing and God will give you what you need/require to be the best in that stage. When you move to the next level, He also equips you for that stage while gradually leading you to your purpose through the path that He has destined for you.
When you see someone else who is in his/her walking stage while you are still crawling (I don't mean crawl literally) you find yourself trying to compete with that person; thus veering off the path God has placed you in. While you're busy focusing your attention on trying to walk, you may break a leg because your bones aren't strong enough to support such stress on it. So instead of competing with others, choose to out-do your past, compete with your greatest achievements and desire to do more. That person's path of life may be different from yours; you may not even be well equipped to face the challenges on that route. You'll end up stressing yourself and find out that you have missed your turn. Trust God and His plans, take one step at a time; focus on where He is taking you to and walk with Him all the way.
Have a lovely weekend.
Lynn
