I'm currently in Europe trend spotting, just arrived today and my first stop is Barcelona, Spain. Fabric key trend is LINEN in both the Women's and Men's market, it is newest in the Junior's market. The linen fabric is used especially for the Romanticism trend where you'll find lots of lace, flowy tops in florals. Found this great resource for linen, Masters of Linen, a subsidiary of the CELC (European Flax and Hemp Confederation), who brings together key industry players in all stages of the flax/linen supply chain.

Here is their A/W 2012-13 Colour and Style Trend Direction. To learn more about Masters of Linen's services, go here .

IN LOVE WITH THE GARDENER

Penulis : Unknown on Sunday, March 4, 2012 | 4:17 PM

Sunday, March 4, 2012

Popularly known as "the power couple", these two inspire me a great deal when it comes to what a relationship should be like before and after marriage. Fela and Tara Durotoye: Fela is a motivational speaker and business coach while Tara is an Entrepreneur/CEO House of TARA .  This is what Fela Said to Tara on their fourth wedding anniversary : “I am committed to working with God to bring out the best you that God has put in you. I am determined on seeing all of God’s dreams for you come to pass. Today, it’s House of Tara, in a short while, the WORLD OF TARA would soon become a reality, the multi-national empire that reveals the real beauty in every woman from the four corners of the world.”

In 2010, I came across Fela Durotoye's speech on his wedding anniversary and after reading it I fell in love with "the gardener" (you'll understand when you read further). Sometimes I marvel at the kinda words he speaks cos it takes a man who has understood the real value of a woman to speak in this manner. These were not just mere words but they were words that every lady should ponder on. Many times, ladies shuffle between relationships 3-4 times in a year and I always wonder why the changes and why make these changes in such short intervals? It turned out to be that we run in circles in search of true love and fulfilment. It is one thing to find love but it is another thing to be fulfilled with the one you love, and be able to achieve your dreams in life together with your partner. A relationship that kills your dream and constantly demoralizes you is NOT the best, you need to become a better person by your interaction with your partner. Your relationship should continuously add value to your life and by so doing you live a happy life without running in circles.  You're probably asking how you'll know the one who will add value to your life...read Fela's words below:

Sometime, about 3 years ago, Tara and I were invited to a TV interview, and the host asked me what was imperative for women to look for in a man. I remember saying. “Don’t marry a man for his “television”, marry a man who has vision and one day; his vision will put you on television”! So ladies, please understand that there are 3 types of men:

1. The Scavenger: The scavenger is a man who capitalizes on a “dead” and “lifeless” woman. Scavengers look for women with low self – esteem, filled with pity and act like victims of life. These men prefer ladies with no inner strength that are always begging for sympathy or for someone, anyone to love them. Scavengers enjoy “no resistance” as they ravage their victims. If you’re like me, I enjoy watching Discovery Channel and Animal Planet on DSTV. I’ve discovered that in the animal kingdom, scavengers include animals like the hyena and the vulture. If you notice, these scavengers often look for the weak, sick or young, helpless animals that offer the least resistance. Are you attracting scavengers? If you are, you need to shore up your self confidence and self esteem.

2. The Hunter: The hunter seeks to trap a luscious “game”, with the sole intention of devouring her; with only a remnant of a carcass. He looks for a beautiful intelligent woman, whom he considers to be a prize possession. This guy isn’t in the hunt, just to fulfill his desires, no, he’s after what hunters regard as “BIG GAME”. He’s looking for the “Big 5”. These are the 5 most difficult animals to catch on foot. The collection consists of the lion, the African elephant, the African Buffalo, the leopard and the rhinoceros, either the black rhinoceros or the white rhinoceros. The members of the big five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them. He’s inspired by the thrill of the chase. The more she runs, the more enticing she becomes. He only wants her as a prize. When the hunter overcomes his quarry, the first thing he does is to decapitate it. Once beheaded, it is skinned and dried and then placed as a trophy on his wall to brag about. Does this sound familiar? The hunter finally gets the girl, eliminates her self esteem and causes her to be a shadow of herself. He kills her dreams, business ideas and her passion. Do you know any hunters? They’re only in for the kill!

3. The Gardener: Now, this is God’s intention for what a husband should be! This man sees his wife as a seed. He recognizes that a seed is a tree in disguise! His responsibility is to nurture and bring out the best in her. One of the things a gardener does is to create the right environment for the seed to grow. He nurtures her in an environment of love and care. Next, after planting, he waters her. What that means is that he’s concerned about her dreams; he wants to know what makes her tick. He takes her dreams and gives them expression; he puts structure and substance to her ideas. When he talks about her dreams, he uses the plural of “we”. He takes personal responsibility for the accomplishment of her dreams. He also removes weeds around her. Another thing the gardener does is to prune her. Pruning means to “cut back”. So he cuts back her excesses. It reminds me of those wall plants that grow so long, over other fences and eventually becomes a nuisance to everyone. Sometimes, cutting back is a painful process to the plant, but it is necessary for the plant to develop the tenacity for explosive growth. He cuts excessive, improper behavior, value systems and friendships. But this in all is done in love with the aim to make her better. He enlightens and encourages her to be all that she can be, to do all that she can do and to enjoy all that she can have. The wife of a gardener is like the path of the righteous; she shines brighter and brighter. She never has a better last year. She’s always growing and glowing with new ideas, new projects and new levels. Her testimonies are full of promotion, profit and new experiences. Her life is every inch, the dream of other women.

Clearly, what all these 3 kinds of men seek in their dreams is as far apart as the east is from the west. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think God created man to be a hunter or scavenger. My Bible tells me in the Book of Genesis that the man God created and formed was assigned to tend the GARDEN of Eden. This tells me that the first man was clearly designed and wired to be a gardener and it was that man God thought shouldn’t be alone.

As far as I’m concerned, every hunter & scavenger deserves to be a bachelor until they change their values, desires and dreams. I certainly hope that I can speak for all gardeners in this article.

The evidence of a good gardener is his GARDEN. Take a look at my garden – TARA, CEO of House of Tara Make-Up Studio and you can tell if I am a good gardener. And even though I know there’s great room for improving my gardening skills.

I hope this note helps you sort out the gardeners from the rest. I believe in you and I know you're going to make one lucky man very happy very soon.

So ladies, are you in love with a hunter, scavenger or gardener???

WHO IS TO BLAME???

Penulis : Unknown on Saturday, March 3, 2012 | 3:01 AM

Saturday, March 3, 2012

Hey peeps, its weekend again and i'm sure everyone's excited to get some rest from the busy week gone-by. While going through some blogs yesterday, i came across this story. I didn't want to blog about it but today i felt the need to and i'll explain why after you read the story -19 year old Nigerian teen found guilty of murder in the UK.

On 25 March 2010, 17 year old Victoria Osoteku armed a 20-strong mob who ‘hunted down’ and hacked to death a15-year-old boy at a railway and underground station in front of rush-hour commuters. Sofyen Belamouadden was punched, kicked and stabbed to death in a ‘brutal and merciless murder’ planned on Facebook after a feud between pupils from two rival schools erupted into violence. Victoria was the one who bought the knife that was used to stab Sofyen, and she was also captured on CCTV kicking Sofyen in the head before running off, leaving him to bleed to death. Victoria, now 19, has been convicted of manslaughter and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm after a five-month trial at the Old Bailey and faces jail time. Other teens convicted of Sofyen's murder: Adonis Akra(18), Samuel Roberts(19), Femi Oderinwale(18), Obi Nwokeh(19), Christopher Omoregrie(18), Samson Odegbune(18).

Born to Nigerian parents in Peckham, South-East London, Osoteku’s upbringing was deeply troubled. At the age of two, her father Abiodun took her and her three-year-old sister away from their drug addict mother Ebunoluwa, who has serious mental health issues and has been sectioned a number of times. For a number of years, she was shunted between her aunt and a hostel before her father, a painter and decorator, remarried when she was five. Osoteku told the jury that she suffered daily beatings at the hands of her stepmother.  At the age of eight she was taken into care and placed with foster parents. Classmates described her as a bully who was always egging others on. One said: ‘Victoria was at the forefront – she was a bit of a bully.’ But the schoolgirl claimed to be a kind person. On her internet profile, she wrote in poorly spelt English: "a black indpendent women who cares for all my bedrins and all fam. but every 1 is ke fam to me. Im a joka thats loves a joka and im rely kind and fast to kick wid".

Back to my reason for blogging about this. After i read the story, i proceeded to the comments. Wow, 135 comments...what are they saying? So many people blamed the parents for bringing her up in the western society, for not training up the child the way she should go while others were very pissed with the fact these culprits are only teenagers. Not even one of them is up to 20 (smh) and most shocking they were all Nigerians except two people. It got me thinking, are parents really responsible for the violent actions their children carry out? In a bid to give their children the best education, has sending them outside the shores of their motherland made them bad parents? Is there an excuse for why a person chooses to live a bad/good life? Who is to blame? Parents or the kids?

In my honest opinion, i do not think parents are 100% guilty; yeah the bible admonishes parents to train up a child in the way he/she should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. But every individual has his own choice to make in life, no matter how your parents have brought you up. So many times you see a very good christian home where the parents have done everything possible to give their kids the best but somehow these kids still do otherwise. After the age of 16, every human being born on earth knows the difference between good and evil and whatever you choose to do will define who you'll turn out to be. Parents will do their best for you, they will send you to school but will not live in the boarding house with you, they don't go for lectures with you and don't hang out with you. The best they can do from home is to pray for you and send money when you need it. It also baffles me that most people blame the life in UK for this predicament; but i'll tell you that in this same country, i have seen teenagers who work while studying and try to be something in life for themselves and their families. Out of 10 British kids, only 4 grew up in a complete home, the rest grew up with single parents but have decided to not allow that to jeopardise their future. The location where someone grew up shouldn't be an excuse to mess up, Peckham or Kensington; ajegunle or Banana Republic; the ghetto (slum) or Buckingham Palace, golden spoon or rubber spoon...it doesn't matter. Victoria's childhood may have been rough but irrespective of all that happened to her, i think something good would have still sprang up from such a beautiful girl. When it comes to taking someone's life or inflicting pains on others, it ceases to be a situation to blame parents cos you have a choice to be good or bad. No one decides that for you.
Excuse not good enough.

To the teenagers reading this, you can be different, choose to be good and don't allow your environment influence you. Keep friends who will add value to your life and learn to walk away from the ones who don't.

To the parents reading this, pls make out time to be part and parcel of your children's life. Do all it takes to be their best friend so that they can let you in on everything that happens in their life. That way you will be able to help them take out the shaft from the grains. Don't spoil them with money, when you lavish them with so much luxury they will do anything to make sure they keep up with that standard of living.

So my dear readers, let's discuss this...who is to blame? The parents or the kids? Or the Nigerian government for not providing quality education for the citizens?

A WOMAN'S WORTH

It all started on a Sunday morning by 8.07am, a cry was heard on the hall-way of Sancta Maria Hospital and everyone in the waiting room leapt with joy. It was the 15th of February 198(?), a baby girl was given as a blessing to a certain family somewhere in the eastern part of Nigeria. A bundle of joy as many will call it, but that day marked the beginning of my journey on earth as a WOMAN. Days turned to weeks, months, and years but as I grew older, I began to understand the precepts of being a woman. Mum will always tutor me on how to sit, stand, walk, talk – the total composure of a woman and during my teen years I’ll never forget something she said to me “Don’t let a boy touch you cos if it he does, you’ll become pregnant” (lol). I starred at her with my eyes and mouth wide open, engulfed with the fear of the unknown. But in my early 20s, I realised that mum said those words to keep me focused and to be careful with guys. At 21, I had the opportunity to live on my own (freedom of NYSC); away from mum and dad – it was time to experience the world for myself. Who I chose to be from that day will determine my future as a woman.

With time, I got to realise that there is so much expectation from you as a woman; in the family, at work and the society at large. But the most important is to live up to that which God has made you to be – your true value, far above rubies. After so much thought, I narrowed it down to one question, WHO AM I? Who you are as a woman defines your total personality and serves as a platform on which you stride through life. But it’s so unfortunate that many women do not know who they are. Leaving my family at such a young age was a big step, NYSC took me to Abuja where the highs and tides of life was in its full splendour; more like “living la vida loca”. I could have easily been swayed and bamboozled by the flashy lights, Porsche cars, high life, sumptuous offers that came with being a marketer in a bank etc. Why am I telling you this? As a lady, you should not allow your environment to influence you, instead carry your own atmosphere everywhere you go. Light up your world with the glow that shines from within; don’t be tossed around by superficial gestures, you should be able to discern the things that will add value to your life and things that would not. In spite of all I experienced during my stay, I never forgot who I was, I knew I had a worth that could only be treasured by one who knows my real value. What I saw on the streets of Abuja which has now become the norm for some ladies makes me ask another question – What value have you placed on yourself as a woman?

As much as we need that special care and attention, you don’t have to reduce yourself so low to get it. I once heard a man say that if only women knew their worth, 95% of the sin in the world will be averted and to some extent I think this is true. Ladies, you need to understand that you are a blessing to your world, you were made for glory, to be a source of comfort, a help-meet, a woman of valour, to be adored and cherished. When you forget this, you find yourself running after people and in turn becoming a shadow of yourself. You need to recognise the quality you were made of, there’s so much greatness deposited inside of you. Don’t let it waste, let the beauty inside radiate on the outside, live from the inside-out; let the true value show and only then will you value yourself.  Don’t throw yourself on a guy because he has promised you diamonds and pearls, don’t stalk him because he is rich and you think you can acquire goodies from him, NO – you can achieve so much with what you have inside and he’ll come running after you. Dress properly, be smart, think big, speak with courtesy, act with dignity, talk less, listen more, don’t lose your smile (it does some magic) and above all learn to walk with God. With Him you’ll discover your true identity and learn to value yourself cos you’re worth more than you think.

A WOMAN’S WORTH
(by Kimberly Renee' Rawls)
(Athens, AL, USA)

A woman’s worth is determined by
how much she values herself.
If her thoughts of herself are dwindling,
then the same will be true of her wealth.
I recognize that I am a treasure
bearing rubies, diamonds, and gold.
My treasure has not been found yet,
and its whereabouts will remain untold.
One day someone shall find me and
a fortunate man he will be.
He will open the lock and finally release
all the beauty of his woman to be.
With confidence I will shine like the diamonds
                                                 that once were hidden inside.
My wealth will be more than rubies,
for no price can be put on my life.
Like gold I’ll be tried in the fire,
and I’ll come out as pure as can be.
And that day shall be reminiscent
as the era in my life,
when a treasure was found in me.
